PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada is hiring a permanent part-time Accounting Clerk, with a potential to expand to full time.

Job Title: Accounting Clerk
Hourly Wage and Work Hours: $22.91/hour – 22.5 hours/week
Contract Type: part-time (with potential to expand to full-time) – permanent

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, this person is responsible for calculating, preparing, and processing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll transactions as well as assisting in monitoring budgets, reports, and other financial records according to established procedures under the supervision of the Director of Finance and Administration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Posting Accounts Payable Purchase and Payment transactions
  • Posting Accounts Receivable Sale and Receipt transactions
  • Posting General Journal entries
  • Processing of bi-weekly payroll, RRSP, and benefit entries
  • Updating and modifying payroll information
  • Preparing bank deposits and petty cash replenishments
  • Setting up approved new customers, vendors, departments, and funders
  • Ensuring all financial paperwork is filed on a timely basis
  • Responding to client and staff general financial inquiries
  • Performing monthly reconciliations of A/P and A/R sub-ledgers
  • Performing monthly reconciliations of all clearing accounts
  • Performing monthly reconciliations of the bank, credit card, petty cash accounts
  • Performing monthly reconciliations of all payroll related accounts
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly internal/external financial reports and proposals
  • Performing other duties as required

Education

  • University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Management/Administration
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted

Experience

  • Two years of experience in a similar position
  • A strong understanding of accounting and reporting in the not-for-profit sector preferred
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment an asset
  • Experience using Sage 50 and strong MS Excel preferred

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of accounting and accounting software, preferably Sage 50
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation affecting charities an asset

Skills

  • Impeccable accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Technological proficiency with accounting software and MS Suite preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
