IRSA is hiring a full-time Newcomer Orientation Coordinator. The primary area of focus for this position is to provide information and orientation services to adult newcomers who have recently arrived in PEI.

Position: Full-time leave coverage
Term: Through 31 March 2024 with possibility of extension
Salary: $23.14 per hour, 37.5 hours per week
Location: Charlottetown

IRSA is seeking a Newcomer Orientation Coordinator to join us in our mission of building a welcoming and inclusive environment by bringing diverse communities together and empowering newcomers to build a future in PEI.

We help all newly landed immigrants and newcomers to Canada by providing vital support in the areas of short-term settlement services, long-term inclusion and community integration programs in the province of Prince Edward Island.

How You'll Spend Your Time

As a Newcomer Orientation Coordinator working with our Community Engagement team, your primary area of focus will be to provide information and orientation services to adult newcomers who have recently arrived in PEI. The coordinator will work closely with Canadian Life Skills Worker and the Settlement Team, as well as community partners, to deliver Introduction to Canada and PEI modules, along with other timely information modules that may be required on a seasonal basis, or when community details emerge, requiring topic delivery to our newcomer audience.

Your work will include:

  • Ensuring the delivery and evaluation of Introduction to Canada and PEI modules;
  • Reviewing and updating current newcomer orientation resources and materials as required;
  • Recruiting and registering clients for enrollment in these sessions;
  • Recruiting guest speakers and subject-matter experts to deliver some seasonal material;
  • Maintaining a master list of facilitators and support channels;
  • Liaising with IRSA staff, IRCC, LINC schools, and volunteers to ensure coordinated delivery of information;
  • Maintaining up-to-date written materials and visual aids to support the orientation services;
  • Arranging interpreters to assist with orientation sessions as required;
  • Providing information as required for internal/external reports, proposals, grants etc.;
  • Recording all relevant client information in the electronic Client Management System in a consistent and timely manner as appropriate to the position;
  • Continuously improving the program by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information;
  • Collaborating with other departments to manage the organization's reputation, identify key players and coordinate actions; and
  • Participate in regularly scheduled internal meetings and professional development opportunities to understand individual, team and organizational role in providing programming, support and services for newcomers.

The typical work schedule is Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with availability required after hours and on weekends.

What You'll Bring

You have:

  • Excellent writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills – both in person and via digital platforms;
  • Proven experience working with standard MS Office and Presentation tools;
  • Effective communication skills in the English language, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, confident in public speaking and presentation settings;
  • Demonstrated a high level of empathy coupled with a strong working knowledge of challenges and issues facing newcomer populations, networks and support organizations;
  • Demonstrated intercultural competency and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds;
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize;
  • Ability to act as a team player who works well under pressure and with minimal supervision;

Additionally:

  • Education or relevant experience in Adult Education would be considered an asset (minimum 2 years in duration).
  • Previous experience in employment, career or business counselling would be an asset.
  • The ability to communicate in languages other than English would be considered a strong asset.
  • Experience working with immigrant or refugee populations would be beneficial.
  • Experience working in a non-profit and/or non-government organization would be an asset.
  • Experience working with a Client Management System (CMS) would be considered an asset.
